So I'm still making my way through the Twilight series, but I had some random questions on my mind that I'm rather impatient to hear your opinion on so...here we go.
I have heard multiple times that Edward doesn't want to turn Bella into a vampire because he is worried about the state of her soul (such as she would be trapped on Earth, unable to go to heaven or whatever). First off, have I heard right? And if I have; this seems like a really deep concept that could turn into an interesting plot-line. Did Meyer pull it off? Try and fail? Or just mess it up utterly? Obviously it didn't become a problem via Breaking Dawn, but I'm just curious for the details.
I once heard a non-committal argument that since Bella became so powerful in Breaking Dawn (leaving her male counterparts in the dust when it came to transformation and powers)Twilight upped it's female power points, and may have even negated much of the anti-feminism in earlier books. Mary-Sue-ness aside, is this true? false?
Are both these points just small, positive glimmers that suffocated under all the other crap? Do they help salvage some of the decency in Twilight?
Final question; I was watching Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" the other day, and I got to the part where Gaston is trying to kill the Beast, and the Beast does nothing to save himself. I remember, even as a little girl, being disappointed in him for not even trying to live, much like I was disappointed with Bella for not trying to save herself in New Moon. Are these two cases the same or different? Better or worse? Why, and what do you think of them?
The only thing I can think of in defense of the Beast is the fact that Belle had barely been gone a day, and he had not had any time to recover. I've never had my heart broken before, but I have it on good authority that for about 3-5 days after the heartbreak, you loose your damn mind. So maybe that's what bugged me about Bella, the fact that she was doing that crazy crap for months rather than days. Either way, I am still kinda bummed with the Beasts' behavior, but if it's only one black mark on a (in my opinion) good movie, I think I can deal.
Thoughts, questions, opinions?
Uhm...I don't know if my computer is freaking out but, I can't find the option to make a cut.... D: D: D:
